Inside Out Live Blog

The last one I did of these was pretty good, so we'll see how this goes.

I've heard good things about this movie.

I'm going to cry, aren't I?

Is anyone else getting the vibe of the experiment about addiction with the the mice? Or am I overthinking endorphins here?

I'm guessing these core memory things are important.

Is this a kid's movie? There is naked child booty.

Never mind. There's hockey. We're good.

This movie is getting a little personal for me.

I like Anger. He's pretty great.

"Crying helps me slow down and obsess over the weight of life's problems." Can I get that on a t-shirt?

Did I just hear what I think I just heard? Bad brain.

Danger! Danger Will Robinson!

This is bad.

Pretty sure fantasizing about a Brazilian helicopter pilot is not the way to go, mom.

Seriously, stop resonating so much with me.

Uh oh. I've heard things about Bing Bong.

Umm, let's just not think about the imaginary boyfriends.

Right, give the core memories to the imaginary friend.

Broccoli is just not that scary.

Oh crap. Clown.

What is wrong with these people?

Stealing bad.

Where is my derailed train of thought pun?!

Well, crap.

Apparently, memories work like gifs. I'm okay with that.

I will not cry over the cat/elephant/dolphin thing.

Who am I kidding?

Okay, I lied. I wasn't crying until she started crying.

Yeah, pretty much what I expected from a boy brain.

That was fun. I could derive some interesting psych profiles from this. Maybe a crossover with Criminal Minds? That would be interesting. Why only these emotions? I feel like there would be more.

Anyway, thanks for tagging along. See if you can match the thought with the correct scene.

The Weekly Wrap-Up: June 13-17, 2016

As a colleague said today, "It's the month of people!"

Granted, both June and July tend to be like that, but it feels especially true right now. Field personnel are beginning to arrive in droves. It can be a little stressful for homeland folks, particularly as we are preparing for conference next week. But we love seeing everyone, so we do what we can.

I'm a little scatterbrained on my week. It feels like I've been all over the place. I finished cross checking the T&M booklets for Scripture splits. I met with Veronica a couple of times to chat about things we need to work on next. She just went through the Japanese booklets and had some pointers about those. It can be a little difficult switching gears in my brain between languages, especially ones I worked on months ago. WIth 23 new projects coming up, I'll have to get used to it.

Like I said, conference is fast approaching. Lori and I have been working on the photo booth stuff, and I've been sorting out last minute details with the flags. I think I have everyone locked down. We ended up with 37 countries represented, which is pretty amazing. We have a nice mix of old and new. Of course, I've already heard questions about why certain countries aren't included. My response?

Don't start none; won't be none.

Seriously. It's five minutes. We're here for a higher purpose. And I ran out of flagpoles.

I'm trying to figure out everything I need to take and do and find and prepare for. Every time I think of something, I try to write it down. I have about 20 post-it notes scattered on my desk. Not sure that's the best system, but it's the one we've got.

I'm looking forward to the weekend, but I don't think there will be much relaxing. Too much to do. I'm staying after conference for the ECC seminar, and then I'm taking a week off for deputation and to visit my parents. I figure I'll need the break. So I have to pack for three things.

I'll try to post about conference and the seminar over the next couple of weeks. I want you to get a taste of what it's like to attend.

Otherwise, I won't be back on here for a weekly wrap-up until July 15. Try not to miss me too much.

The Weekly Wrap-Up: June 6-10, 2016

Well, here we are again. Another week of excitement.

An intern asked me this week how long I've been with OMS, and I realized that it will be six years in July. I told her, "I'd like to say that it's gone by quickly, but the truth is, I've felt every one."

I imagine it's a lot like being in labor. It hurts like heck going through it, but you forget all about it as time goes by. There are a lot of things I've enjoyed about this job and a few things I've found incredibly difficult. I'm glad I'm here, though.

So, on to the week.

I've finished retagging the SAG entries in the back of the booklets. Next week, we'll do cross checks of our work. Eliana, a coworker in Chile, has been splitting Scripture tags. This helps translators as they can just copy and paste from whatever version they use and not have to worry about extraneous text. She'll check my work and I'll go through hers. This is an important step because when you do the same thing over and over again, things can start to slip through the cracks.

I also recorded a radio ad with one of our interns, also named Jessica. As always, you can find our One Mission Minutes at oms.media.

Finally, I've become increasingly conscious that conference is just around the corner. We only have one full week left, so everyone is getting a little anxious about finishing things. I ordered the flags we need and the replacement poles. Those will hopefully arrive next week. (They have to. I don't have any more time.)

I'm down to three flag bearers left to find. Ironically, one of them is for the United States. Maybe it's because I work too closely with people. (Actually, I've asked someone. He just hasn't responded.) I'm sure someone will be missing on the day, but for now, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Have a great weekend, everyone. Wear your sunscreen. It's gonna be a scorcher.

The (Belated) Weekly Wrap-Up: May 31 - June 2, 2016

I briefly contemplated not even writing a post about last week. I mean, it was three days in which I did what I do on every other day. Hardly riveting stuff, even if it is written by me.

But I'm a completer. Completionist? Finisher. I finish things.

Whatever. I can't not do something that is part of a series. It just isn't feasible. So let's just move on.

Monday of last week was Memorial Day. Obviously. So I wasn't at work. I was watching X-Men: Apocalypse. Not a bad movie. I'm glad I only paid $6 to see it, though.

I spent most of the week working on either conference stuff or T&M stuff. The flags, I'm happy to say, are nearly sorted. I just need to order some we don't have and corral another four people to carry them.

Way back, before we knew any better, we decided it might be nice to put Student Activity Guide entries into the back of T&M booklets. This would be a good way to introduce people who hadn't been using the SAG to its wonders. We also decided, hey, let's tailor some of these entries to the book topics so that they are more relevant. Sure, this will make us draw from several activities at once, but that's totally fine.

Is it possible to punch old me in the face?

Because we changed the SAG tags, we also had to change the booklet tags. And it can't just be a straightforward thing. No. So I spent a fair bit of time deleting old tags and inputting new tags. Go me.

On Wednesday, we took a half day for prayer. This was nice because we spent some time outside at the flags and prayer walking around the building. (Apparently, it's called a Jericho Walk, but no buildings fell down, so I think we failed. Except it's a good thing, because the building we walked around was my office, so that would have been bad if it fell down.)

Look, I know how to do panorama shots! Is anyone abnormally stretched?

The Foster in his native habitat charges at the invaders.

On Thursday, I helped Carolyn with orientation stuff again. I really can't draw, but for some reason, she keeps asking me to help her with the timeline of missions. And I'm happy to do it.

I may take some liberties.

Then Lori and I took an hour to set up a project that took us about 20 minutes to complete and then another 30 minutes to tear down.

Not to overcomplicate things.

I also took some of my spare time to fix some of the info boxes on the T&M web app. Because I couldn't take one more day of being asked when it would be finished.

Anyway, I took Friday off because I scheduled a garage sale for Saturday and I needed to get ready. I apparently can't leave this place because certain people freak out when I'm not in. Despite the fact that NO ONE visits me the rest of the time.

Grr.
